When you’re designing an infrared heater for a bathroom, you run into a tricky problem. You want that instant, cozy warmth, but you can’t have the heater acting like a blinding spotlight. Standard short-wave lamps are intense. They create a harsh glare that’s not just annoying—it can actually be stressful on the eyes. And if you’ve got a baby in the house, whose eyes are still developing, that’s a huge deal. Taming the light So, we figured out a way to shift the light. Instead of just letting the raw, blinding radiation fly, we use special coatings on the quartz tubes and specific gas fills. Think of it like putting a filter on a camera. It softens the light. We aren’t doing this to make the bathroom look “moody” or pretty; we’re doing it to kill the glare while keeping all that heat. We aim for the mid-to-long wave range. That way, your skin feels the warmth, but your eyes don’t feel the sting. The nitty-gritty of the hardware The housing has to be tough. Those quartz tubes get incredibly hot, so the materials need to handle the heat without warping. We use high-temp reflectors to push the warmth straight down. It keeps the heat focused where you actually want it, rather than wasting energy on the walls or the ceiling. One quick tip on the electrical side: watch out for the initial surge. These lamps have lower resistance when they’re cold. If your circuit breakers are set too tight, the system will trip the second you flip the switch. You’ve got to make sure your wiring can handle that first “kick” during warm-up. The trade-off Here’s the honest part. When you filter the light to protect your eyes, you lose a tiny bit of that raw heating power you’d find in a giant industrial lamp. It’s a small sacrifice for safety, but we don’t want you feeling a chill. To fix that, we just bump up the wattage a little.
